Joanna Deacon

Joanna grew up in the beautiful, English Cotswolds. Relocating to Southern Africa, she was given the opportunity to meet people who live throughout the fascinating and diverse continent of Africa

Joanna went on to explore Southern Asia, Europe and the Americas and armed with a Bsc in Social and Biological

Anthropology, qualifications in Horticulture, Design, and

Natural Medicines, she started allegoria atelier. People from diverse backgrounds became her focus, while art and the processes of making fabrics became a passion.

Today, artisans from around the world provide fabrics, and ideas. They tell their stories and often extend their friendship. She continues to live between Oxfordshire, and Puglia, Italy, with her husband and children.

Preserving the stories behind the fabric

Fabric is not just a material: it is a canvas for creativity, a source of comfort, and an expression of our values. The beauty of fabric lies not only in its texture, colour, and pattern, but also in its ability to tell a story about who we are and what we stand for.

We strive to create pieces that are not only aesthetically pleasing but also made with care and consideration for the environment and the people who make them.

From local businesses to the rest of the world

We recognise the importance of preserving traditional, textile techniques and the cultural heritage that comes with their creation.

We source our fabrics from small businesses and cooperatives, and by working together, we can ensure the quality and uniqueness of our fabrics, while contributing to the preservation of traditional skills and techniques.

At allegoria atelier, we are committed to nurturing our planet, one handmade creation at a time. We understand that perfection may be an elusive goal, but our dedication to sustainability and craftsmanship remains unwavering.

Each of our items is a unique labour of love, meticulously crafted by skilled artisans. Just like nature itself, no two pieces are exactly alike. It's in these imperfections that we find the beauty and authenticity of our products.

No two pieces are the same
